My friends Matt, Kelly and Dave pretty much ripped on me (and justifiably so) last Christmas because of some activities I was forced, well, if not forced at least pushed into doing while in Chicago that, as Kelly so eloquently put it, "You know, I really hate it when people use this word, but that is honestly the gayest thing I've ever heard of." Notwithstanding the event that she was talking about which I won't get into, I had another moment that tonight that reminded me of that conversation.

Being a nice guy and all, I usually have no issues doing things for people. So when Carolyn called me up today and heard I was going to the Des Plaines library to return some items that were overdue, she asked me to pick up a video for her. I sort of vaguely remembered the details, Sleeping Beauty, ice skating -- I figured I had enough information to find whatever it was she was looking for when I got there, not thinking for a second about what I was about to check out. I looked it up in the search catalog, went to the row and found it, only to be faced with this:

At which point I suddenly realized: I'm about to check out the gayest thing I've ever checked out at the library.

So gingerly I took the tape downstairs to the checkout counter, where a guy was waiting. At the last minute I realized that I should have gotten other things to subdue the effect of checking this thing out, but it was too late. This video was going to be the only thing it would seem that I wanted.

Of course I wanted to get this done as fast as possible, but to my dismay everything was stalled, with this tape lying face up on the table for the rest of the line to see, when he had to stop and explain the overdue policy of the library. After what seemed like an eternity, he finished his explaination and checked out the item. So, somewhat mortified at this point, I left the library vowing never to do a nice thing again. Or at least listen a bit better when the next request comes along...
